Welcome to colingilbertmusic.com, the unlikely intersection of heartfelt music, rogue storytelling, curious videos, and a lifelong fascination with what it means to be human (without the boring bits).I’m Colin Gilbert — musician, writer, illustrator, former drummer, accidental philosopher, and enthusiastic explorer of everything from Bograts to ballads. This site is where I’ve gathered together the many creative threads of my life — the serious, the silly, and the soundtracked.
Music that Moves (or at least Wiggles)
From my days drumming through the decades to composing original songs and electronic instrumentals, music has always been my first language. You’ll find tracks here that range from moody jazz to playful pop to quietly experimental pieces — all reflecting a deep love for rhythm, melody, and occasionally, mischief.I’ve had the joy of writing music for the inimitable Fran Landesman, whose lyrics have been sung by Shirley Bassey and Georgie Fame (among others). And while the spotlight was never the goal, the groove always was.Watch & listen on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@colingilbertmusicvideo
Books that Bite, Chuckle, and Occasionally Howl
I write stories for children and adults who haven’t forgotten how to wonder. Take Bodge’s Adventures with the Bograts — a tale of a lab rat on the run that’s part sci-fi, part social satire, and part pure fun. Or explore the musical memoirs and illustrated works that play somewhere between scrapbook and songbook.Whether I’m writing about rogue rodents or rock ‘n’ roll memories, I aim to keep one foot in imagination and the other firmly in real life — or at least somewhere nearby.
Video, Visuals & Other Vagabond Mediums
I like to think in pictures too — whether that’s through illustration, video snippets, or anything else that tells a story without always needing a chorus. You’ll find a mix of animations, experiments, and narrative moments here — some strange, some sweet, and all stitched together with the same thread of curiosity.
🌀 What Ties It All Together?
A sense of humour.A refusal to take life too seriously. And a belief that art — in all its messy forms — can help us understand this strange experience of being human.I don’t claim to have answers, but I do enjoy asking the questions. Preferably with a backbeat.
Come in, have a wander.
Explore the music, flip through a book, watch a video or two. And if something makes you laugh, think, tap your foot, or just feel a little less alone in the world — well, that’s the point. Thanks for visiting.– ColinWebsite: https://www.colingilbertmusic.com
